Pedal Spindle info

at this point this is the configuration of the pedal spindle and bearings (some will call them bushings…) as with the pedal body i hoped to keep the spindle simple, functional and my hopes are to minimize “rattly pedal syndrome” that all sealed pedals seem plagued with. sealed pedals are real nice initially on the bike but after what seems like little riding they develop some play. for whatever reason it’s a peev of mine. two ways we hope to reduce this, the bearings are SAE 863 bronze which is stronger than basic bearing bronze which will provide better wear. it’s also oil-impregnated, designed for applications that are hard to reach or get very little service. which, let’s be honest most of us have better things to do than re-build pedals… and i’ve included a spring washer, also known as a belleville washer on the end to provide a slight amount of preload on the bearings, and take up any slack that could develop. all this goes together and is secured with a 1/4″-20 bolt.
